Hello Kindred Spirit,Â
I hope youâre doing well! Itâs been a while since I wrote to you last. Slowly, after some health issues & some times that dipped low, I am getting back to sowing new seeds.
Here are 3 things I want to share with you this time:
1. Book Recommendation: I have been reading Anita Moorjaniâs book Sensitive is the New Strong, which is the next pick for The Highly Sensitive Creative Book Club.
Something from Sensitive is the New Strong stood out to me. This is something Iâve said to friends myself (quoting this exact quote), so I found it really relatable:
âFor empaths, the popular childhood quote of âSticks & stones may break my bones, but words can never harm meâ doesnât ring true. When we hear criticism, it gets blown out of proportion within us. For example, a little girl, feeling full of herself and in love with life, is told, âPeople would like you more if you werenât so loud.â While one child might shrug the comment off as a crabby parent needing a little quiet, a more sensitive child might clam up and absorb the harsh comment as true, as a sign that sheâs unlikable when sheâs just being herself.âÂ
This feels so true to my own experience, even though I was a shy, quiet little child!Â
If you are interested in this book club, I will be sending out a sign-up link next week once the event is live on Eventbrite. Please keep a lookout for it, if youâre interested.
2. How to Build a Village. In this piece, Rosie Spinks talks about how to build a village.
âYou donât need friends, you need people. Kurt Vonnegut wrote that most marriages fail because they donât have enough people in them:
âYou should know that when a husband or wife fight, it may seem to be about money or sex or power. But what theyâre really yelling to each other about is loneliness. What theyâre really saying is, âyouâre not enough people.ââ
3. âIt isnât that the evil thing wins â it never will â but that it doesnât die.â If you are feeling exhausted by the nature of the world, this may be a strangely helpful way to look at it. As this year is coming to its last chapter, I thought it was appropriate to share learnings from a year gone by. Â Â Â Â
Thatâs all from me this time. I hope you have a great weekend!
With love,
Ritu

Thanks for the powerful reminder in #3, Ritu. It's so helpful to be reminded that we are not falling short in standing up to the evil of the world, we just need to stay committed to the process.
Thanks for these recommendations--that first book sounds particularly interesting to me. I'm going to check it out soon, thank you for the suggestion.
